Question Wheel width

This question may have been asked or common knowledge, but I dont know so bear with me.

I am looking at a set of 20X8.5" wheels and want to wrap them in 35 or 37 inch toyos. Before I put the wheels and tires on I am gonna do a 4 or 6 inch suspension lift (with my 3"B/L). Will this work?

To my knowledge 35" should fit fine, I believe 37" will fit too but I'm not sure

Get the 4in susp lift. You can easily clear 37's with that and your body lift. If you go with a 6'' you are asking for trouble because you will stress your cv joints and various other front end componets. A 4'' will keep them at stock settings, which will give you the best chance and not having major problems with the 37's on the IFS suspension. If you decide to go with 35's, to have less stress on your front end, then stick with the level and BL. Otherwise it will look mighty silly having 7''s of lift for only 35's. As for the width of the wheel... 8.5'' wide wheel will be fine if you go with a 12.5'' wide tire or less. If you get the 37x13.5 toyo MT's then you will need a 9'' wheel width at minimum. The 37x13.5 Toyo MT actually measures out to be 14.6''s wide. Hope that answers your questions.

it does thanks for the info. If a 4" lift will clear 37's with no problem then there is no reason for me to go with a 6" lift. I just want to be able to clear 37"s without having to cut anything. Thanks again.

With a 3" BL already, adding a 4" suspension lift will help you clear 37's no problem.

On our rams you just need a full 6'' lift to clear 37's. With a 7'' lift it should fit very nicely and give you a little room for articulation if you off road any. If I went with that big of a lift I would probably get greedy and try to stuff 38x14.5's on there. lol 37's will look awesome with a 7'' lift. I would still recommend with 20x10 rims or save yourself some money and get 17's. They are lighter and are much better off road.

Well to answer that statement all I would have to do is change that question mark to a period. You get more sidewall, which translates to much greater tread width when aired down for off roading. You get a a lot more flex and traction, that is why most off roaders will use jeeps with 15'' rims. The more sidewall, the more tread width you will have.

Plus the 17's weigh less, which will help you ever so slightly in mileage. Also tires for 17's cost so much less than the 20's. not to mention the rims cost less as well. But I am a redneck and love seeing a ton of tire and very little rim. I think of big rims on ricers, not lifted trucks. Just my .02.
