Default Oil Change. Synthetic?

I have stated before that I'm definately no mechanic so I have a question for you guys.

I bought my Ram at the end of January. It now has 52,000 miles and is overdue for an oil change. I can only assume that up until this point it has had only regular oil. Is it safe to switch to synthetic oil at this point? I've read all the great things about Mobile 1, Royal Purple and Amsoil and would like to put synthetic in it but will it hurt anything at this point?

Thanks.
William

Agreed, change it like you would regular oil. Nothing special or different.

wont hurt a thing. your good to go. i personally use mobil 1. i have tried rp before but it is a littl emore than mobil 1 and the auto parts stores around here dont always have it in my weight. get yourself a good filter too not the cheapo fram. there is a site i think its bobtheoilguy.com has lots of info on filters and oil.

Go for it, no drawbacks and plenty of improvements. When I switched from regular oil to Amsoil, the difference was immediately noticeable, engine ran much smoother and was great. Picked up about .5mpg from the switch too.

Go with the synthetic, I did after I already had 60,000+ miles on mine. Nice thing about using syn is you can go longer between oil changes which is what I do. I'll go 5,000 then change the filter and add a little fresh oil to bring the level back up. Didn't notice anything as far as gains go but the syn is suppose to be a much better oil.

If you decide to go with Mobil 1 you should get it at WalMart. I just got some there last week and it is only $22 for the 5 quart jug. Can't beat that price.

I usually get my oil at walmart then go across the street to Pepboys to get the filter. Pepboys wants $40 for 5 quarts of the same oil that walmart is selling for $22. I don't know how they sell it so cheap.
