Frog's waiting for those "I-robot" zombies from I Am Legend to come after him! Or he's just trying to make will smith jealous...

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I'm really happy with the way turned out! As much as I would love to blind someone at night... I keep the covers on around town to avoid problems with the po po.

I am fairly certain you're just messing with these posts, but I'll play along anyways.

Why would someone NOT like being on the beach at night? You can drive down to a secluded area with out other people and enjoy the moonlight on the water, listen to the waves. No one is around at night and it's like you own the place.

He's like the iMax, you could see the light from space. Ha

Question though, I just got a brush guard and was going to mount 2 lights to it. Can I just wire them to the battery and a switch and be done with it or will I need any kind of relays? I've worked on several different aspects of a vehicle but have never added lights, not sure what exactly is needed to do it right. I also have 2 lights (55w each) to mount under the rear bumper to light up the water when pulling my boat onto the trailer at night. Same question for those as well...is it just a straight up 12v power and in-line switch for the ground wire?

if you have a heavy duty switch u wont need a relay. most regualr toggle switches are rated at 10amps. and to find how many amps ur gunna need u divide watts by volts. so since u got 2 55watt lights u do 55x2 and then divide that by 12. and if the switch cant handle the amps u add a relay.
i would do the math but im on summer vacation.

and idk about tapping into the existing switch. i would just add a relay to the leading hot wire for the parking light and then add on extra lights from the relay after that, that way u wont need and extrernal switch.
same with the reverse lights. its gunna be a pain running wires that long in length but u dont wanna over load ur oem stuff. Tap a relay into ur leadwire of your reverse lights and then add more lights after that.

I like to use relays for all my lights just because I don't trust switches to handle the load.

Question

I may have missed this answer in one of your earlier posts - but what battery are you using to support the additional load? I've got the heavy duty towing pkg. and have added extra lights as well - but I would still like to find the best battery with the longest life regardless of price.
Thanks.

well for high end stereos anyways that use lots of amps, they use optima yellow top.

i dont see how u can power all those lights on for a good amoun of pieceful time out at the beach without ur battery dieing. unless u keep ur engine running with the cam and exhaust setup and at the same time trying to listen to the ocean without waking up the dead

Optimas are nice but way over rated. I like to use marine deep cycle batteries. They're proven to take pounding abuse (my boat can testify to that) and they are waaayyyy bigger than anything optima has to offer. You can get a giganto marine battery for about $100.

So far my alt is handling the load just fine, but I'm considering gettting a 160 amp alt, the stocker is 135 amps.

I only use the lights for driving in. Once I am parked I use a lantern for light.
