Third gear question

Default Third gear question

Hey all got a question about third gear and going through them manually with the gear shifter...i can go from first to second to drive but it almost seems like it skips third when i put her in drive after i rev it to 6 grand in second so i go to drive from second then if i let off the gas at about 80mph and put it back down to second it looks like it jumps into third because my rpms go back up to about 5 and i can pull to 6 then it jumps to the next gear which makes me a hell of allot faster....why wont it do this by itself.....if im crusing at around 75mph and i punch it all she does is kick the OD off and go it goes alright but if i put her down to second she goes into third and im alrdy at like 5 thousand rpms so it pulls much harder and faster....any ideas wtf is going on.

i think i might have fixed it before by adjusting my rev limiter to 6150 and putting my shift points at around 5950 maybe it just doesnt want to down shift because it doesnt want to rev that high untill i adjust the rpm limit for the gears???

If yours is the auto you have a second and a second prime (I think thats what is called) before it goes into third (Someone please correct me if I am wrong here).... One of the guys I know who really likes racing his truck and has a lot of work into it hates this part of the gearing and with no tuning for the trans he cant adjust it any. Basically with his it will hit first second third then drop back down to second and search for third for a while before shifting again into third under WOT. To counter act it, when he takes it to the strip he throws it into tow/haul mode, and it semi removes it to the point that it is not as noticiable.

For me, with the SC I played with shift points for a while til it pulled just the way I wanted it to. I had mine set on the performance 91 tune with the rev limiter at 6300rpm, WOT 1-2 @ 6100 and WOT 2-3 @ 6050 and it pulled hard and I never got that up/down/up shift you are experiencing.

man all that playin around just doesnt sound good for the tranny.... but hey its your truck. sorry i cant help ya on the question though my trucks slower than dirt but looks good.... and im ok with that
