hey guys was jw if anyone has the K&N drop in air filter for their truck. down the road i want to do a cold air but for now i want a filter that is cleanable because I like to change my filter on a regular basis and buying the cheapie throw aways adds up to a k&N after like two of them.. anyone have it like it? and if not any other suggestions?

 

I just replaced my kn drop in with a CAI, the drop in is a big improvement over a paper filter, but the CAI is definitely the way to go. But til you can afford one I would recommend the drop in I could tell a difference every time I cleaned it!

 

I did a drop in. i couldn't see spending $250-300 just to replace the factory tubing. You won't get the power increase with a CAI vs the $300 spent. A handheld programmer can be bought used for $300 and will slap any CAI silly as far as money well spent.
CAI regardless of brand may gain you 2-5rwhp A tuner will gain 15rwhp Most of a CAI that yields gains are the actual filter itself. The Hemi hat isn't as restrictive as people say it is.
Slap in a filter and call it a day.

 

I just changed my stock filter and air intake with the K&N CAI system and noticed the differenceright away. When I am towing is when I really notice the difference and my MPG has gone up by about 1 mpg. They are a little bit louder without the resonator box but that's a tradeoff I can accept and they are very simple to install.

 

Get a amsoil filter...it uses synthetic fibers instead of oiled cotton like a k&n. There's no recharge kits to buy and no mess...you just vacuum it or hit it with compressed air.

 

i have an 02 ram and have had a drop in K&N since ive had the truck. in fact that was the first mod i ever did.

i noticed a difference in acceleration and MPG, and notice it again everytime i clean it.

after reading about the amsoil filter, that might be my next buy, if i need to replace my filter.


for me the drop in was perfect given my budget.

 

I agree with the amsoil filter as well. But, I had the KN drop-in with a MIT tube from TruFlow before i got the CAI, and it worked well. I was happy with it. I got performance, but didnt have the CAI noise.

 

+1 the stock intake setup on our trucks is aggressive the way it is, you wont get a noticable gain by spending $300 plus on just an aftermarket intake compared to a drop in. K&N claimed an 8 horse gain with their intake kit, and a 3-4 hp gain with their drop in. $340 compared to $50....

 

smash a roll of toilet paper flat and stuff it in there. Same as a drop in.

 

I have a k&n drop in air filter and i'm pretty satisfied with it. I noticed an increase on take off right away. Its better than the paper drop in. Go for it.
