Default Hemi Pulling Power

Hey guys, got a question for all the Hemi owners who have pulled trailers with their trucks.
The other week at work, we needed to go pick up a mower, and all of the work trucks were gone. So I hooked up a dual axle car trailer. Nothing special, nothing too overly long, just about 6.5 foot wide on the floor, then the axle length. We've pulled it before with trucks of less size than my truck. Taking off in town, it pulled just fine, then I got on interstate, and 5300 rpm isn't where my truck should pull it at for going 70 down interstate. Basically, I'm saying that my truck had no ***** pulling this trailer down interstate, and for being empty. I was then scared to put the mower on the trailer, not to mention my fuel mileage was horrible on this trip.
So if anyone has any insight on this, I would be grateful. And for things on my truck, nothing has changed since before the summer, basically just a stock truck.

Yeah I feel you on this I get about 7 miles a gallon, pulling my boat and I'm always killing it to stay at 70, but I guess its the 35's.

I'm going to get a superchip here sometime soon. Need to get some more power out of the truck, but I doubt that I'll do 4.56 gears.
So does that mean that these trucks are just that gutless at high speeds with trailers?

I pull a double axle 16ft open trailer sometimes and while the mpgs do suck doing it, i have no problem pulling it loaded and i certainly dont run 5300 at 70mph.

mine kind of is.... i must admit, i was a little dissapointed at how heavy my boat feels behind my ram. especially since my 3.9 dakota could pull it almost as good....
i only run about 3000 rpm at 70 with the od off and get 9-10 mpg

I have a 21 foot boat and with the trailer it weighs about 4000lbs. I can pull it up mountain grades with no problem. I have 3.92 gears and get about 10-11 mpg. Going on a straight away freeway I go about 65, 2000-2500 rpms. Going up a grade at 60-65 she is pulling about 4000 rpm.

I pull a maxed out load with mine once a month. I don't go 70 MPH, but I don't think it would be at the 5K mark for RPM. You should have the overdrive off and probably going slower. I will say that when I'm going up hill, loaded, and 45MPH, the truck won't accelerate well. I pretty much have to stay at 45 MPH. Also, keep in mind that at those speeds you will have a hard time stopping quickly.

I gotta say, when I had my '98 Dodge with the 5.9, it felt a lot like it had a lot more ***** for towing my bass boat (about 3000lbs with trailer and gear) down in the lower rpm range, but while I still had the boat and pulled it with my current Hemi, I was feeling just the opposite as you describe, little low end grunt, but once I got the rpms over say 2500 or so, it pulled better than my old 5.9.
And if you think gas mileage sucks towing with the Hemi, you NEVER want to have to tow with the 5.9 gasser...

I played around with OD and all that, and with OD off is when I was at 5300 rpms, and with OD on, it would go down to about 2500 rpm, but I had no power to accelerate. Granted the trailer sat cockeyed, because I didn't have any drop in the ball hitch, I did need my 4.5" drop hitch for it, and the truck didn't hardly squat at all. It still had the rear end in the air. MPGs were about 5 on the trip. It did horrible, I was very disappointed in the way that my truck acted.
