Need some help/advice
I have a 2002 1500 4.7L QC with 83K. I took my truck into the dealer 2 days ago because the engine was running horrible and the engine light was on. Turns out it had a misfire in cylinder 3,4 and 5. They replaced the coil pack on 5 and then ran carbon cleaner through the motor to clean everything out. They gave it back to me and it was running strong. About 50 miles later the engine light is back on and the truck is running even worse. The mechanic said the next step is to replace the cylinder head, which is a $2000 job. That's alot of money to fix a motor that has given me nothing but headaches. Can anyone give any incite on what I should do. Anyone have anything to say?
First 3,4,5 isn't on the same side. so both heads would have to come off
that is such a joke
take it someplace else. Is the check engine light on again?
If so get someone to scan it and post the codes on here.
they probly guessed that coil pack 5 was bad also.
Did they do a compression test or anything?

I picked the truck up yesterday and drove less then 50 miles and the light came back on and the truck is running like I never took it to the dealer. The codes from the first time at the dealer are:
#5 Misss-fire
#5 Primary Coil circuit failure
Multiple Cylinder miss-fire code
#3 Miss-fire
#4 Miss-fire
Then the work sheet says they found a broken coil plug at #5 and replaced it. And performed carbon cleaning and all codes had been restored. They didn't perform any compression test.

They can't possibly know what is wrong and that the heads need to be replaced without a compression test. Try taking it to someplace that doesn't rely on VooDoo diagnostics... Hell, an old and warn wire set would could give you the same codes and be a $75 fix...
SOunds like spark plugs. did they change the plugs first????
I would make them refund you the money for the coil pack that didn't need replacing once you find out what the problem is.
You know......My brother-in-law had a similar problem with his Jeep G. Cherokee. Ended up being loose fuel injector connections.

Alright I had the code read today at the local auto parts store. #3 Miss-fire. I looked under there and it looks like the plug that plugs into the coil pack has a broken clip on top meaning the plug was not sitting in all the way. I called the dealer to see if they sell a new plug and they don't so he told me I would need to buy a new engine wiring harness. I threw some zipties on the plug to make it sit in the coil pack nice and tight to see if this is the issue. It's not a permanent fix but will at least tell me where I'm at. So far the light is off. Thanks for the help guys. Stay tuned!
an entire wiring harness?? wow, you could prolly find one in a junkyard clip the wires on the same connector with about 4" of wire and rewire it into urs, but glad u didint get screwed by the stealership for pulling the heads for 2grand, they were gonna charge me 2500 to have my manifold gaskets replaced, HAH ill live with it until i get headers
