Default 1500 Fender Flares

I am worried about the wheel well lips on my trucks getting pitted and starting to rust. I was considering putting on a clean looking fender flare like an OE style from Bushwacker. I haven't gone to the store yet but do these wrap around the bottom of the fender and into the wheel well to preven rocks from hitting that exposed edge facing the tire and would it be a good way to protect those wheel well lips from rusting?

Someone had mentioned to me that Fender Flares may not be the way to go as they tend to hold moisture in?

Also, is there something you can do when you put the fender on that it wont stratch the crap out of the body paint. Or is it like the truck accessories store told me "Once they are on don't ever take them off"
