Sporatic truck shudder after ball joint replacement
I just bought a 2004 Dodge Ram quad cab 2500 diesel from Texas with 84K. Drove it from texas to kansas with no problems. I was having the tires rotated when I found that my upper ball joint on the passenger side was going bad. I rented a ball joint press and replaced both the upper and lower ball joints on the front passenger side as well as the U joint while I had it torn apart. I also just replaced all the brakes. After doing this I was driving home going about 55 mph when the entire truck started vibrating as if I was driving over rumble strips. I slowed to a stop and the vibrating slowed as the truck slowed. After stopping I continued on, and it did not re-start. About one week later it did it to me again at about 55 mph on paved road. I slowed to a stop, as I continued on it didn't re-start and it hasn't done it since. I've heard of the "death wobble" but I don't know if this is it or not. My steering is never effected, just really loud vibration that you can feel. I'm not exactly sure where its coming from as the hole truck shudders. I double checked the ball joints and U joints and they still seem firmly in place. Your help is appreciated.
have you checked the tie rod ends?...i had an outer one on the passenger side going out.It wasn't totally gone but it was enough i could feel it in the steering wheel(kinda like what you described).I took it to the dealer and multipe shops and they said there was nothing wrong.so i bought one from autozone for $50 and it took like 20 mins to do.took care of the problem right away.oh and by the way welcome to DF
