the idea is to use less power on initial startup. if you've got a ton of stuff running before the alternator gets going it puts a large load on the systems. your compressor will probably last longer if you turn it off each time.

either way, its nothing major. especially on a larger engine its even less imperative. its a lot more of a strain on the smaller ones. I do it just because. one of those "here-say" things
