Year? Engine? Lift? Larger tires? 4wd or 2wd?

Handheld tuner is the way to go regardless of just improving mileage. The transmission functions as well as the additional power is worth it all by itself. I get 11-13mpg all city driving. 15mpg highway. 08 4x4 QC. I have the Diablo Predator set on 91oct performance tune. You could install an 89oct tune and get a little more mpg's, but you do own a truck, so don't expect to get 25mpg. And don't expect a 10mpg increase from any tuner either.

Also, your MPG's are in direct correlation with your foot! If I'm heavy footed, I'll dip below 10mpg's city and 11-12mpg's running hard on the highway and above 75mph. Best highway mileage for me is 65-70mph and driving easy. Then I can get 16-17mpg highway.

yeah from what I hear those chips are a waste of money. The best and cheapest way to improve MPG is to be light footed. For performance, like Dog said, you can't beat a hand held tuner and you will get a small bump in MPG. But, again like Dog said, you are driving a truck so don't set your sights too high.

Depends on the "chip." Jet chips are worthless, and any ebay/internet special claiming to give you an increase in mileage for less than $100 are pure BS. All the namebrand tuners, Superchips, Diablosport, Hypertech, etc, all claim a 2mpg or less gain, because that's the best you can expect from just a tune. The best MPG "mods" are proper vehicle maintenance and controlling your right foot.

There really is no point in saying all the good points tuners have if we dont know the year and engine. Most of the programmers have certain years/engines that are either not supported or have minimal support available.

That being said, tuners are a very nice thing, specially when paired with other mods to help your truck work more efficiently. I love my Diablo, I got close to a 2mpg gain switching from the Superchips 91 tune to the Diablo's 91 tune.

Check eBay for those cool chips that give you 40mpg and add 100 horsepower, all for $20. Those are sweet.
