I am looking around at various cold air intakes, and stumbled across this one:

They're claiming a 2mpg improvement on fuel economy on a 5.9L Ram.. does that sound realistic?

Not bad for $148 .. if it works... but I don't want to waste the money if it doesn't make the improvement they claim.

 

What makes it work? Wouldn't a k/n filter do the same?

 

I would say it isn't worth it. I highly doubt you get 2 mpg out of it. All it looks like its doing is smoothing out the flow from the stock airbox to the throttle intake. You are still restricted at the airbox by 1) the filter and 2) the small intake going into the airbox.

 

Why spend that kind of money on an intAKE YOU COULD GET ON EBAY FOR 1/10 THE COST DO A SEARCH ON EBAY. here is a link to a ebay search I did on Dodge ram intake 5.9. They look to be the same as the 360 intrakes for the 5.9

Thanks, but none of the ones that are '1/10 the cost' work for my application. I've got a 2002 Ram with a 5.9 ...
