How to install muffler myself ?
I would like to install my AT3030 myself on my 07 ram QC 5.7, i had a couple questions. The OE muffler is 30" give or take and the 3030 is 20" I plan on leaving my OE tailpipe/resonator at this time for ease of install and cost. I was thinking of getting a piece of 3" pipe long enough around 10-12" to make up the difference in length. What would be better to clamp with, band clamps or the other style ? I will make some hangers at work that will clamp to the pipe and i can adust the mounting points. I dont really have the cash at this time to get it installed at a shop and I enjoy fabricating things at work. Any and all ideas apprieciated thanks in advance.
sounds like you got a solid plan. personally i would only leave it clamped on temporarily until i could afford to get it welded on. there are special exhaust clamps that a lot of auto parts stores sell, probably be better off with those rather than some generic band clamps.
keep in mind though, you will probably spend nearly as much $ in clamps and extra pipe and hanger material as you would just getting it welded in. cost me $50 to get the muffler welded in, and that was with parts and labor.
