If those are your two picks I would just paint your lights. It's not really that difficult and you will save some green. The only difference I see with both of those from stock is the reflector which you can remove very easily.

I have yet to try it but I'm going to install halo's which other than the painting is almost the same process as far as disassembly goes. There are several videos on youtube that explain how to take apart the assembly and there are also a few writeup's on the forums as well. yea i know i looked at them. all im going to say is that im glad i bought an extra set of lights before i tried that...

Go w/ the first set. DIY is not really worth it, especially if they end up not sealed like mine.

Def do not paint them, being a perfectionist like myself I was never satisfied with the way they turned out and I would have much rather spent the little bit of money and have more time with the ones I love.

Oh and get the first ones

Just make sure the first set come with CLAER reflectors and not Orange ones. I bought a set for my mustang and they came with Amber reflectors instead of Clear.

Also, clear reflectors will fail some states inspections unless you have other reflectors on the side of your truck. Just food for thought.
