Default Studded Tires + Size?

Hey everyone, long time since I have been on the Boards, I hope everyone is doing well.

I moved to Denver this summer and am loving it so far. I am here for some advice on some studded snow tires. I have a 2005 QC 2wd Hemi. I have some Cooper Zeon LTZ 275/60R20's right now that I am debating on swapping out with some studded tires for the winter.

I found some studded Cooper AT's 245/75 R17 for sale on craigslist. Would these fit ok on my truck if I got some used 17" wheels to go with them? Would I have to mess with the speedometer or anything else if I went down to a 17" for the winter? Do you guys think I would see a major difference in these studded tires compared to my LTZ's I have now? I am already planning on loading the bed with 400+ lbs, but want something I can rely on to take up to the slopes.

Thanks guys, hope to hear from some of you.

How high in the hills are you? +1 on what he said. You speedo will be off. A superchips will fix that. This will help as well(http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html) I would get studded tires if I where you or don't go out when it snows. Which I'm sure out there it will never happen. My general at2 they have places to put studs on them. FYI I studded tires are a softer tire than others. You could try yo find a 17" rim or pick up a set of these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-3975855/ and find the correct tire that you want or a beat set of mudders.

regardless of what you do with the studded tires, I would go buy a few sand bags and toss them in the bed. I live in upstate NY and I run 300lbs all winter long. the bags go in around early December an get pulled in late March.
You can put studs on all you want, but if you don't have any weight back there they won't help that much.

As far as studded vs non. Studs are better on ice. They slide on bare pavement. I prefer a really good non studded snow tire like Michelins X-ice tire. They are expenxive, but they are very tacky in cold weather and do very well on dry pavement. Those along with added weight in the back and you'll be good to go.
