When I painted my badge for the hood I didnt sand it or prime it, and I did it when I bought the truck and it is still perfect... its all about the right touch with the paint, very light fast strokes from the right distance and waiting long enough for dry time between coats but not to long either. Your first coat should show through to the chrome still very clear, then the next coat would be a little heavier, and so on and so forth, you should not have a solid finish until about the 4th or 5th coat if you do it properly, then you do about 2 more light coats still.

im also gonna have to say, to heavy to quick on the coats of paint.
On the emblems, I would think on 1 or 2 coats would do it.
