Default Question about Hoop Step Placement

Well I am sure everyone will get a chuckle out of this, but here it goes. When I bought my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 a couple of month's ago I told the Dealership that I wanted Hoop Steps for my Truck. I told them I wanted the 10 inch wide ones.

Well it took them forever to get them in and when they got them in they were the 20 inch wide ones. They give me a choice to wait for the right ones our I could just have them install these. They wife had been riding them and me about getting them on so I said just put them on that way I will get the Wife to chill.

They have been on for about 3 weeks and tonight was the first time I tired to use the Hoop Step for the back door and I think the clowns have it mounted in the wrong place. I have been so busy lately that I really had not paid any attention to it. (Getting ready for Bowhunting!)

Here is a picture of the truck and the hoop steps be honest I know they are ugly but for now I am going to use them and replace them in the spring with 10 inch hoop steps.

So are the ones for the back doors mounted in the wrong place? Seems to me way to far forward. I have looked all over the internet for an image of how they should look and I cannot find anything like these.

This is the only picture I have of it as of now but it shows where they are mounted.

Any input on if thery are mounted right or wrong is welcome.

( Sorry about my 14 year old son being in the Picture)

The ones for the back door are way to close to the front. I think it should be mounted closer to the middle of the door.

Yea I agree those look way too far forward. Lol I love that shirt! Kind of a coincidence I was just asking if anyone had pics of single steps like those.

Thanks for the input guys, I guess I shouldn't be in such a hurry all the time.

I called the dealership and told them the screwed up. I swear everytime I get something done at this dealership I have to get it done twice. I guess one of these days I will get smart and stop shopping there.

I should have known when it took the guy that was installing the steps 3 hours he didn't have a clue.

It also took the same guy over 3 hours to put on my Hitch and do the wiring for the plug.

Only reason I buy and get work done there is my wife used to work as an office Manager for them for 10 years so I do get some good prices but not sure it is worth the headache if they have to redo everything everytime.

Never heard them called hood steps before? Why "hood"?? i was thinking at first you got decals on your hood or something...lol

As far as the steps being to far forward for the back. that was my first assumption, but if you were to mount them farther back, they wouldn't be aligned with the center of the back floo where you put your feet. if they are moved backwards and centered in the door, they would be too far back IMO to transition your feet properly.

No they don't, stop the nonsense. they sell cheap mild steel coated in cheap chrome that peels off.

Your son is a big boy at 14! Holy crap! he's like 6'1"?? Took me until 17 to get that tall...lol

I think the 10"ers may be a bit too small for you guys. if your a big dude like your son, those tiny little 10" steps won't be big enough to swivel your foot as your getting in/out. Go step on the bars and you'll see what I mean. 10" is smaller than most guys shoe size. i know I'm wearing a size 12 and looking at your one, he looks like a 13/14? A 10" step is big enough for his heel only...lmao

Wow! that is an amazing low price. I didn't pay for them but the ones like this I have not found lower than $250 for 4 steps. If someone wants them I will trade them for 4 of the 10 inch Hoop steps. I know those you can get cheap and there all all kinds of bands on the market.

I just went to Auto Zone website and looked at there steps the one they have for $26 would not last for 10 minutes on my truck we are talking real junk.

Here is a link to a place that sales the steps I have 2 steps are $159 But at least they are not made out of tin foil

I had not thought about the 10" ones being to small for bigger guys but after you mentioned that I went out and kind of watched were my feet go and you are right it would be hard to make a step like this work.

Thinks for the input I think ya saved me some grief of putting the 10" steps on and then finding out they sucked.

That boy of mine is into size 14 shoes all ready. Doc says he is still going to grow more. It has to be something in the water here in Iowa I mean I am big but not near as tall as that boy. I figured he would be one of the bigger kids in his 9th grade class if not the biggest after this summers growth spurt, but he has 2 friends at his school that are both over 6' 5" tall. Geting kind of costly feeding the kid.
