Default 2006 Ram 1500 4.7 V8 Towing Question...

Folks, I did a search and could not find an answer that seemed 100% sure, so I am going to throw this out there. I apologize if it has already been answered and I missed it. If so, please point me in the right direction.

As stated above, I have a 06 Ram 1500 4.7 V8 Quad Cab, looking to install electric brake controller. I know that my Ram only has the factory 4-pin installed to the rear bumper. Digging around online, I think this is my course of action:

Purchase the Trailer Tow Wiring Harness from Dodge for the full 7-pin functionality
(Part #82207253AB)

Then purchase the Brake Control Sub Harness for connecting the actual Controller
(Part #56045795AB)

This should give me the full 7-pin control with the ability to wire in a brake controller. Please let me know if I am barking up the wrong tree.

Love the site and thanks!!!

Thanks for the reply, BadStratRT...

What do you mean regarding the panel to mount it?

In looking over the installation instructions for the 7-pin harness, I would install the 7 pin to the bumper, connect to existing 4-pin, tap into my brake light control with the supplied connector, run wire under truck, connect to battery terminal and terminate the wire in the cab with a fuse.

He means is the 7 pin gonna pretty much just hang there like the 4 pin does or does it come with a mounting plate to mount it in a fixed position to?

Gotcha....It includes the bracket for the 7-pin also. It looks to be all inclusive. Just wanted to be sure I was looking at this all wrong before I go and purchase.

I appreciate your responses.
