Most of the newer rstarts will have an activation input wire. Hook this wire up to the door lock motor wire(in most cases) and then hit the lock button two or three times,programmable depending on unit.

 

The shop I got mine installed by had mentioned that they can work around the chipped key. it would cost an extra $50 and a spare key blank. they would put the key inside the car around something that senses its there. this would, however, bypass the chipped key and it would no longer serve a purpose.

 

Depending on the year there are modules that dont require leaving a key in the dash but yet need one to program and then sends that signal to the car via can/data bus. The trick is to fool the computers that the key is in the key cylinder. Some of the ones we use you can read up at www.idatalink.com

My factory key turns my alarm on when i lock the doors and shuts it off when i unlock them. I don't use my factory key though. i have a basic key with no controls on it and then a key fob separate like most vehicles do. That way i don't have two big bulky devices in my pocket. I use the alarm remote because it is a 2-way pager and I can actually see what is going on via OLED screen. Both key and alarm fob are smaller when folded together than the long bulky akward stock key. haven't used them since I installed my alarm.
Factory alarm you will need a dealer to program it as the function in the ecu is turned off. Need a Starscan tool to turn it on after installation. Factory remotestart it's a very basic one button jobber and the range sucks. Most of the time you have to be in visible site through a window and closer than 500ft.
I have a 1/2mile range, can start inside of mall buildings if i want and installed the kit myself in 3hours. I have full alarm/remote start with a 2-way pager remote and a 2nd replacement remote and was cheaper than the dealer. It also came with Telematics so i can call a phone number up and unlock the doors if i ever locked my keys inside. i also have no key left in the truck. My bypass unit is fully programmable.

Dealers system is a rip off and then you need to carry around 2 big devices. Dumbest thing ever.

Anyone who deosen't have a "use" for alarms is just blind. Thefts happen all over the world daily. With the factory alarm, if the driver side door is unlocked by breaking the door handle(that is only plastic) or sticking a screw driver in there and unlocking it, will turn off the trucks "theft deterent" alarm and unlock the door. Now the theif has gotten in with no one knowing as the factory alarm sucks and won't go off that way.
