EVERYONE I know of whose had a major engine failure with a Hemi has run 87 octane gas. Now I know people who've run 87 with no problems to date, but why take the chance over a couple of bucks per tankfull...

Well, I just did the cold reset, so we'll see what happens. I gassed up before doing it and I was only averaging 8.7mpg.

I think I now know what the MDS sounds like, but so far, I rarely see it/hear it activate...maybe thats the issue?

When I go to the stealership mon morning, if it doesnt show any codes, I will make sure they check that the brakes arent stickin. What else can I make them check for? When I spoke to service manager again, he's like, ya know...the engine might still not be broken in. I dont know if thats crazy salesman talk or what?

As far as 89 octane goes, I purposely asked the dealer and he said 87 is fine. I never trust what mechanics/salesmen tell me...I dunno what made this scenario different.

I have an appointment for 730am on Monday, will let you know how it goes.

Im going to do the reset today.

I have been waiting to hear what the dealer said about your Ram and its low mileage issues. I am not experiencing the issues with MPG you are, but curiosity has the better of me plus, something might be identified that could help us all. So, let us know the verdict once you know. Thanks!

Are you sure you calculated right? The formula is:

Miles Driven
Gallons Used

And you usually ned to be as accurate as possible.

I got 11 mpg calculating manually with it loaded up with people and gear going 80 which i don't think is too bad.

P.S. I also use 87 when not towing or hauling stuff. But when I do pull or whatever I do use 89,

I recalculated mine the other day after about half a tank and it said 23mg...so i went from 10.8mpg to 23mpg hmmmm maybe it was the half a tank thing but its deff getting better millage after resetting my pcm and reinstalling my 91 octane tune...im guessing it actually is around 19mpg

19 mpg would take an act of god to get out of mine! That sounds a bit high though, do you have MDS disabled?

Edit: I don't know much about the newer Hemi's I may have just sounded like a tard there.

I got mds disabled and i swear its better with it gone....before it would kick on and off on and off and every time it kicked back on it would rev high....mds is ****...if it stayed on longer yes it would work but its to damn touchy. Before i reset my pcm and stuff i went like 400kms on a tank of fuel now i have gone about 300 on half a tank....dunno wtf was wrong but its better.

yup that aint right i just drove 300 miles pulling a 3000lb trailer with my harley in it through the mountains and the desert and was getting like 13mpg on the highway that was at 60mph and 2000 - 2200rpm.if your brakes were dragging to by the way you would possibly be getting a slight pull wich would be more pronounced under braking, plus the rim would be noticeably hotter than the others.and just because it is brand new with low mileage doesnt neccasarily mean anything.good luck and at least you dont live in canada like me where the price of 89 is close to 5 bucks a gallon.
