Question Oil weights??

If, as in my trucks case, the engine oil requirement is 5W 30............would 0W 30 or 0W 40 be better???
Having a greater range of viscosities does this afford a greater range of protection?

I kow MDS Hemi's are very specific, but what about none MDS?

Why would you not run the weight dcx recommends?

Dunno' really.
DCX specifies 5W 30 for my 03 Hemi.
I just wanted to know if there's any benefits to running something with a greater range?

It gets to -12 deg c at times here in the UK and can get up to 32 deg c in the summer.

A 0w-30 in cold weather is not a bad idea, but I would stick w/ a 30w oil.

0W and 5W are so close that it really does not have measurable difference after the acceptible variances are considered. As "chambers" suggested, the 40 weight would do you no good. In fact, with the tight tolerances, you would most likely see a decrease in gas mileage.

going away from the man. recommendations is never a good idea. especially when dealing with oil. During the summer I would certainly suggest sticking to the 5w-30, but during the winter you might be able to get away with 0 weight. But why? You wont gain anything from it. If you're so worried about the cold temps, get a block heater. It keeps the engine at 60F (I dont know celcius, im an American idiot...).

Stick to the 5w-30. There are zero real benefits of switching.
