need some quick help with front suspension
long story short, my 07 qc 1500 ram has been clunking in the front driver's side suspension for quite a while. Mostly it was pretty random, but has been doing a constant clunk i can feel through the floorboard lately. Took it to the dealer, they said the driver's side shock is blown and sway bar links are bad. Grand total of about $870 if i have them fix it!!! So my questions, i would like to order a set of shocks all around tonight and just do it myself. What are the best shocks u guys run that will make the truck drive/handle better, links to the site would be awesome. Also, to replace the front shocks, would i need a coil spring compressor, noticed the coil spring is right over the shock and the shock has a big flange on it the spring rests against. Or do i just un-bolt the shock and pull it right out. As for the bs they gave me about the sway bar, i even told them before they looked at it that i completely removed the sway bar off the truck, drove it around the block, and the same problem happened. Think i'm just gonna start with the shocks and see what happens. Sorry for the incredibly long post, just a little frustrated
are the billstein shocks about the best i can get for my truck, money really not an option. Just want to get my truck fixed, and have a little smoother ride. Anyone got a link to the exact billstein shocks i would need also
Honestly, if you have any mechanical experience, there is nothing that is too hard to handle yourself on these trucks. I mean unless your tearing apart the engine and drivetrain, just do it yourself. I personally have pro comp mx6 shocks but i would get some rancho's. As for the knock, mine does it too and it can be anything from a ball joint, to a sway bar link, to a worn bushings. ALl of this you can do yourself. I am OVER giving mechanics ridiculous amount of money to do something i could have done.
i am pretty mechanically inclined. I'm just wanting to know how to remove the shocks bc the coil spring is attached to the flange on the shock. Do I simply un bolt the shock and slide it out, if so, no problem at all. Or do I need to get a coil spring compressor to do the job
