Default do i really need the expensive stuff?

im looking for new shocks, rotors, and brake pads.ive been told to get bilstein shocks and cross drilled/slotted rotors with ebc brake pads.now these parts are very expensive but do i need or should i get the expensive stuff? i use my ram as a daily driver.i dont race it,i dont off road with it and i dont really tow anything with it,its not lifted or leveled and i use stock size tires/rims (20") so should i just be buying oem type parts like plain rotors with cheaper pads and a cheaper monroe type shock or is it really worth $100s more for the good stuff knowing that im just a daily driver?

My $0.02, you can do with it what you will...

The folks who are on this and other truck forums on the internet are a small minority of the Dodge truck owning population. I would question how many people out there really know who bilstein are or what slotted rotors are. I would guess that most people that own Dodge trucks are quite happy with mopar replacement parts or monroe shocks or Advance Auto brand rotors and pads.

Naturally on here you are going to hear a lot of people praising one performance part or another because this is an enthusiast forum. But people have bought no name brand replacement parts for years and been perfectly satisfied with them for everyday use. If you were off-roading or racing then that would be a different answer.

Again, just my thought on the subject.

Well the rotors are what will kill you in price. And the OEM rotors warp really fast. I'm in the same boat as you though cause I need to get the rotors and pads replaced soon and dont want to spend an arm and leg on them. The ones I have been looking at are the performance rotors from NAPA, they are around the $120 per range, they are drilled and slotted rotors, come with a lifetime warranty for warping/breaking/cracking ect., from what I have read they hold up really well. The pads again from napa are $50 for the fronts, $50 for the rears for the performance series, again from reading around they hold up great, evenly wear, little to no brake dust.

The shocks do make a difference so I would not skimp on them.

Its all in what you're looking at really. In this case, for the pads/rotors, I might spend the extra couple bucks for the "good stuff". Not for the performance aspect, but for the warranty aspects. Liftime warranties on your pads/rotors is awesome.

This is coming from a big ol' tightwad btw. Id just rather pay $500 once (off the wall numbers here) than $150 10-20 different times.

Just my .02...

i would get upgraded rotors and pads. you wont need cross drilled or slotted for your DD but Oem rotors suck. as far as the pads i would go cermaic, they stop better last longer and have little dust(less maint for you). i have never had a problem with the stock shocks but i dont off road at all.

If you are just a daily driver and had no problem with the stock parts. I would stay with the stock parts. But that warranty is good.
