Default fuel mileage

My buddy has a 2002 or 2003 ram 1500 w/ 4.7L. He says his gas mileage sucks(8-11mpg). What are the rest od you getting for mileage? What can be done to improve his mileage?

Check the thread at the top of the forum. Why do people ask questions without looking at the rest of the forum to see if their question has already been asked??

Only real complaint with the truck. 11.5 city 17-18 hwy With flowmaster, air raid cai and a light foot. Really dissapointing. I have friends with 4.8 chevys that do way better but their ugly LOL. Even my friend with a avalanch 8.0 gets better.

I've just turned 15k on my 04 1500 2wd 4.7 auto w 3.55 open rear end. I have the 17 chrome clad steel wheels and 245-70'S. I get right at 15 in town some times 14.5. When I only had about 3k on it I drove up hwy 75 into Oklahoma and got 20.1. That was at 65 with the air off.

I think a lot of this bad milage B.S. about these trucks is just that B.S.! I have a friend in Ohio who just bought an 05 Reg. cab 1/2 ton 4wd with 20's and gets 15 to 16 combined city hwy.
I think some people iether don't figure thier milage correctly, there is something wrong with thier truck (mod's have screwed it up) or thier just plain full O sh_t!

I think anybody claiming 20+ miles per gallon with a full size Dodge must have the tranny in neutral and the engine shut off. I manually calculate my mileage and check it against the overhead computer, and since I've owned this truck I have NEVER averaged over 14 mpg doing city/highway mixed driving. I don't think this truck is even capable of doing what the window sticker says it will do unless you drive 65 mph on the interstate through an entire tank. It's awful.

11-14 mpg is what I'd expect from a V8 Ram so if your friend's truck is in that range he's normal...not acceptable, but normal. [&o]
