Wink Power Steering and or rack & pinion how to tell?

Great site - I have used this forum many times - thank you. Question - yes I have used the hell out of the search button....here is the truck 04 Ram quad cab 4x4 hemi.....

How to tell if the PS pump is bad or the dreaded R&P? My symptoms sometimes hard to turn the wheel at a stand still, moving a trailer backing into my spot....etc...

Checked the fluid Good to go.

No puddles of fluid just the normal fittings begin dirty

No big leak and or fluid on the rack....

One other thing went I check the fluid the lid popped off, like it had built up pressure. I hope it's the pump.

Thanks for you time....

Ive replaced both racks and p/s pump in my 04. when you turn the wheel at anytime does it make a grinding noise? im no pro but i would guess its the pump. usually if its the rack it would be leaky and you might get vibrations on the highway.

I'd Say the pump. Try replacing it.

Changed it - it was the pump - sounds like a different truck. I guess I didn't hear the original one going bad......I'm backin into every parking spot now!

Thanks!
