4.7 is still slow
Hey man. I basically have the same setup as you except mine is an 08. Although I feel the sufficent power it feels the same. I personally don't care for how the tranny shifts and the clutch. That is where I would like to start.
Yeah, check what gears you have atm probably 3.21 or 3.55, you may want to think about 4.10 or 4.56 gears that's a night and day difference I think . . . not too sure on what to say about the intake manifold seeing I have the 08 4.7
so no swapping anything out for me for now.
I called the guy at airram.com and he said he would recommend doing gears first. He said any other performance parts would be just like a band aid for the crap gearing in the ram. I'm just wondering how many RPM I'll be running down the highway with my 6 speed standard transmission? With the 6 speed, will 1st gear be way too low? Does anyone have 4.56's and a 6 speed standard?
You need to look up the ratio's of each gear for your tranny and put them into a gear ratio calculator w/ your tire size, mph, and rear end gear ratio you plan on getting. Here is the one I used to figure out what my rpm's would be http://www.rearendparts.com/pages.php?pageid=16

We need to figure out what transmission you have first, then we can find out what the gears are in the transmission. After that we need to know your tire height... NOT rim size.... Actual tire height from the ground to the top of the tire.
Then the math is simple from that point on.

Transmission Gear Ratio x Rear Gear Ratio = Over All Gear Ratio (OGR)

STEP 2) Find your RPMS at ANY SPEED useing your OGR
SPEED x OGR x 336 / TIRE HEIGHT = RPMS

As a GENERAL rule of thumb we used 2000RPM's@60MPG as the benchmark for best overall performance. We recommend you aim to be as close to 2000RPM's@60MPH without going below 2000RPM's.

so, at 60 MPH with 4.56's I'll be at about 2300 RPM. That's not as bad as I thought, the truck has no power with 1800 RPM at 60 MPH. I'm guessing I would see a slight improvement in not only drivability, but MPG. Is the truck going to actually accelerate faster with the lower gears, or just feel like it? Anyone have time sheets or anything?
