Default Painting my chrome

I'm about to order a primered rear SLT bumper and a black honeycomb grillcraft grille for my 07 1500 Laramie. I'm going to get the rear bumper painted to match my Brilliant Black paint and I was wondering for the rest of the plastic chrome on my truck if I can just get it painted or do I need to get it powder coated? I've heard both ways some people say I can just have it painted normally since its plastic chrome but others say I have to get it powder coated? So what's the definite answer?

you can paint anything..if ur painting a chrome grill or bumper i would sand it with prolly 320 grit on plastic chrome and 240 or 180 on chrome steel bumpers then prime them and then sand and paint.

Powder coating works by magnetizing metal, and when the powder is sprayed, it is of the opposite magnetic current, so that it will be instantly drawn to the metal. You cannot, repeat, CANNOT powder coat anything that is not a metal. And I believe some metals cannot be coated either.... such as non-magnetic metals I.E. aluminum, etc.

Alright sweet thank you guys for the useful information. I'll find a good local body shop that I can trust to paint my primed SLT rear bumper and the rest of the plastic chrome on my truck. Thanks again

That is not true at all. Anything that can receive an electrostatic charge can be powder coated. We have powder coated plastic dash pieces before. Since plastic melts at low temperatures, we use a resin powder that requires low heat.
