fuel filter is in the tank. most guys dont change them unless they go bad. and if mine went bad, i would probably replace the pump too, since i am already in there.

at that high of a mileage, i would suggest: run seafoam through crank case, intake, and fuel system. followed by an oil change and throttle body cleaning. then front and rear diff, and transfer case. then transmission, drop the pan, replace filters, get all of the old fluid out by disconnecting the line to the tranny cooler, starting the truck, and having it drain into a bucket while someone else pours new stuff in (will take around 14qts i believe) then move on to plugs and wires. then onto brakes, replace pads and rotors if needed, and flush your brake fluid out and replace with new stuff. then, disconnect your power steering lines, drain them into a bucket, crank the wheel back and forth to get all the rest of the fluid out, and replace with new. and lastly, if you have some money/time left replace your pcv and egr valves.

thats due around 100k miles right? if so, might be good to change it. but good luck, i hear its a b!tch to do.

If that's the 5.9, it's not hard to change. Much easier than the 5.7.

I don't care what kind of maintenance you do, but the one thing you DO NOT want to do is have that 46 RE flushed. Trust me on this. Only have that done if you want to have a $1500 rebuild bill on your shoulders.

Any 5.9 gasser that has over 70,000 miles on it needs to have the plenum gasket checked out. (Hemi guys, this doesn't really apply to you all, so let your eyes glaze over.)

I do second what OlDirty had to say. Specially the Seafoam.

To sum up:

1. Oil and Filter change
2. Seafoam- Do this before the oil change
3. Tranny filter and fluid change- USE ONLY ATF+4 No dex with a friction mod or any other T fluid
4. Diff fluid change and inspect
5. If you have a standard paper filter, that probably needs changed too.
6. Check Tie rod ends, and grease all points avaliable to you on the front end
7. Spark Plugs and Cap and Rotor
8. Plug wires


Don't be shocked when you do the seafoam treatment. The first time I did mine, it smoked like a diesel for about 30 seconds and then turned to white smoke. I don't really buy into the crank case side of the treatment though, but I will use 1/2 a can through the booster and the throttle body and the other half in the tank. (If you have the small 27 gallon tank this is probably over kill.

This is all assuming that you have the 5.9 that we 2nd genners are so fond of.

I have the 4.7 L.

I will probably wait as long as I can for the timing chain and pay someone to do it.

The seafoam sounds fun if anything. blowing out a bunch of carbon and pissing off the neighbors. Sounds like an afternoon.

Getting behind on vehicle maintenance is no bueno.

I believe the fuel filter is IN the tank. If it runs OK Don't worry about it. Brake fluid absorbs moisture after years and that is why it turns dark brown so I would bleed the entire system wheel by wheel until the new comes out of the bleeder in the proper order rear pass, rear driver, front pass, front driver and make sure you keep the reservoir filled while doing this so you don't get air in the system. Diffs yes and I would get the fluids all from Mopar ( if you have LSD you need the additive)
Tranni you said was just rebuilt so that is OK with new filters and fluid.
Throttle body just spray out( you can't really open it because it's electronic) but something better than nothing Seafoam I never tried but can't hurt
Radiator flush I would only do if the fluid in the reservoir bottle looks nasty, Mopar uses the ORANGE make sure you use only THAT do NOT mix to add.
Hope that helps.

PS. you can polish the haze out of them headlights with 3m polishing compound and some elbow grease. If you wheel them they'll look new, same goes with the tails.

Don't forget about replacement of the flasher fluid. It's only rated for close to 1 million blinks.

This is much better replacement fluid and it's Synthetic! :
