Need help!!
well i test drove an 06 quad cab 4.7 2wd n 3 diff quad cab hemi 4wd's 2 1500 and one 2500 (mine) and all of wich had a TON more get up and go than the 2wd quad cab 4.7...my opinion its a slug with a QC, but a regular cab 4.7 isnt a bad option and theres a quick little bit of upgrades out there for it...
Got to take car of them trust me if you don't they will fall apart long before its paid off.
4.7 and the hemi get basically the same gas mileage. Keep shopping! Ruling out a 04 or 05 is a bad idea since they were good years and you might find one with real low miles. Good Luck. Avoid any v6. v6's were not made for trucks.
I'd probably join in with the bashing of the 4.7 but seeing I have one and it's the updated 08 4.7 I simply would feel horrible if I did . . . my boss has an 06 4.7 and I want to race him so badly but I flat out know I'd win and that would spell disaster for my career there as a temp
As for what others are saying I'd have to agree and hold out for a hemi ! So many things I can't do yet to my truck even if I had the money being it's the 08 4.7 rather than a hemi.

Do not buy a ford, it will fail you in every situation.
Secondly, you can buy a Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4 Crew Cab for WAY under $17,000. If you want speed, get a Hemi, otherwise just go buy a POS ford.
You will regret buying any other motor other than a Hemi. Trust me.

Although a lot of guys on here have mixed reviews of dodge's 4.7... I'll tell you what- A buddy of mine had a 4.7 ram- Beat the living tar out of that motor and it never had any problems. Ran like a champ. I would not get that ford. I wouldnt get a ford motor unless it was a 5.0. But to be honest-- if youre going to get a 4.7 ram- You should just get the 5.7 hemi ram. You'll be regreting it, and be happier in the end.
Just my 2 cents buddy.

I love the 4.7 engine, I have the H.O. version of it in my Grand Cherokee. But IMO it's not suited for a truck when the Hemi is available, is only nominally more expensive and gets equal or better mileage.
Both engines appear to hold up well over the long haul if properly cared for. I have two friends with over 200,000 miles on 4.7 V8s, one in a Grand Cherokee and another in a Dakota...
