Default Fire radio/CB Antenna and coax cable questions....

Alright, odd topic but i'm kinda stupid when it comes to this stuff. I'm a volunteer firefighter and being appointed to lieutenant in 2010. I have been looking for more gear to outfit my truck (2003 dodge ram) and first on my list is a radio. I already picked my radio out, it's a Motorola CDM-750. It has 4 channels and 2 auxilary buttons i can program to do whatever. I understand the whole frequency deal (we run at 42-50mhz low band). I'm stumped on what kinda of damn antenna i need! I had found a nice mount http://www.walcottcb.com/dodge-ram-2...ath=28_353_433

I can't seem to understand the hookup of the mount tho. I was told by my chief if i don't want a hole in my roof get a trunk mount. I found this and figured i'd use this. Only problem is i don't know what kinda of antenna hooks up to that mount and what coax cable . Somthing about a firestik cable but i was told to run NMO trunk mount and the other end to the radio needs to be a UHF Mini. Anyone have any idea? I realy like to stick with this mount or type of mount cause if the simplicity of running the wires right under the hood.

If i am not mistaken, this cable will work cause it comes with 2 piece adapter. A PL-256 or a mini-UHF. I'm pretty sure thats what i need with this mount and my radio takes the mini-UHF. Make sense anyone? Still stumped on the antenna...

Not every firehall can afford to giv their members mobile auto radios, and our hall is no acception. Low band is what out county runs and they are in the process of switching that over but the town will not pay for all the new radio equipment. We need to file for grants but they won't apporve the grants either. All of the companies are gunna file for a grant, combine the money and go in on a package deal. It's been a long process for about 2 years now and just takes a lot of time i suppose. Well, anyone with any help on this bracket???

A hood mount will work but I think you are better off getting a mag one that way you can move it around.

You could just make a bracket to mount to the front most part of the bed box, right behind the rear window. or do like a lot of red necks do, and get a tool box and mound it to that. Where do you plan on mounting the radio? there was a post yesterday or the day before from another brother that found a nice mound just in front of the center seat....

Yeah that was me that found the mount, my post lol. I figured everything out now, the mount/coax doesn't apply to my application. It was CB only. I found a NMO mount after a couple hours of searching tho and i also bought that bracket. I'll have pics up when i get it all installed. Thanks for everyones help
