Ram 20" wheels and beach buggies
I have been limiting my search of Ram to 2500 so far, but wanted to open my search to consider the 1500 as well - 2006-2008 range Hemi. Anyway, one of the main purposes for the truck is to take it on the beach in New Jersey - as a beach buggy for fishing. I have never done this on a beach with a truck but I know you need to air down to like 17lbs. The Rams in this year range mostly come with 20" wheels. That's not much sidewall. I'm curious to see if anyone here has tried using the stock wheel/tire combination on the beach. I've asked others that say theoretically, since the tire is going to be wider, that I should not have to air down to 17, but probably 20. I would still wonder about breaking the bead even at 20lbs on the beach. Is there enough clearance to get a larger profile tire on those stock 20" rims? I don't understand why so many of these Rams have 20" wheels. Are people just no off-roading with them?
Any advice or thoughts appreciated.
