Well I finally made up my mind on rims...I went with the XD series 797 spy but im stuck between 2 tire brands ProComp Xtreme Mud Terrains or Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials 35x12.5x17...occasional off roading mostly highway and want that agressive look

tire rack didnt do reviews on the ProComps or the Mickey Thompson....I been checking with offroaders.com..they seem to have test just about every off road tire out there

 

They are both made by Cooper and will both be a little noisey. Honestly, for mostly highway driving aI would stay away from both of them or any tread that is as very aggressive. You can get dune grapplers that have a wild pattern to them or some LTZ's that have an agressive type pattern and will have much better road manners if any at all. LTZ's are whisper quiet.

If offroading is more enjoyed than highway, then you would look into the Mickey's and Procomps. i just think your going to be sacrificing in more than one area for just the look. I can see giving up a little noise for looks, but those tires will wear out twice as fast and possible wear uneven on the road due to softer compounds??? Just keep an open mind out.

If you want a good highway tire that can play in the mud, check out the Nitto Terra Grapplers or Nitto Trail Grapplers. I'm not knockin' the Procomps or MTs, just thinking that you'll get more miles out of the Nittos and better on road performance while maintaining the off road capability.

 

About four years ago, Pro Comp made a big push in south Ga, distributors sending huge posters to tire shops for display and aggressive pricing. A HUGE proportion of my buds bought them and NONE, to my knowledge, were very happy with them. I personally know of one guy wore a set of ATs to slicks in 18,000 miles on his Wrangler.

LTZs are quiet and handle well on both wet and dry pavement, are priced very aggressively and will suit most peoples needs well, but Terra Grapplers get the same great marks in both, are just as quiet and score much better off-road.
Mickey ATZs (owned by Cooper as is sister company Dick Cepek) are another great choice and I have a very good buddy with a set on his lifted 2000 GM with 80,000 miles on his with a good bit of tread left. Miceky MTZs are quite aggressive, a good bit noisy, but seem to be wearing well for the guys I know with them.

The Dick Cepek FCIIs are a great compromise tire between a true A/T and M/T tire. They fulfill my needs perfectly as I have to travel 350+ miles each way on mostly interstates to get to my farmland in Ga but has the meat to do some serious off-roading when I'm up there. Are also wearing quite well. About the only negatives I can say is that they are every bit as noisy as all but the most aggressive M/T treads and like their sister tires by Mickey Thompson, are among the more expensive tires out there.

Mickey Claws are a fantastic Off-Road tire, along with the Bogger, probably the two best made. I had a set on a Wrangler, but they are downright dangerous on wet pavement and I'd imagine on hard packed snow and ice. It is not a siped tire and even though I cut some siping into mine, they did not channel water worth a damn and hydroplaned easily.

If your truck is a daily driver, stay the hell away from the aggresive MT tires. Now if it's a weekend off-road warrior, go for it...

If you're looking for M/T's look at Toyo M/T's. Really good street manners for a mud tire, and downright nasty off-road.
