Default New guy with a few questions

Well not exactly how I wanted to make my 1st post, but I have a few questions. I recently bought a 2003 Ram 1500 6 cyl 5 speed NON 4x4. Around 163000 miles on it. Being a Chevy man all of my 38 yrs till now, I was really pleased at how comfortable this truck rode and what not. Enough small talk. So far in the few weeks I've owned this , Ive had to replace power steering pump and O2 sensor. No big deal. My 1st question is there any particular area on the tranny I need to look at as to why this thing sounds like an F18 thats about to take off? It only does it while shifting. I have a code reader and its not showing any. Any advice?

2nd question...Are Rams normally slow on top end? Some days it feels like forever to reach 70 mph. I haven't done normal tuneup stuff yet but just curious. I drive an 18 wheeler and seems like every Ram I've passed, they seem to drag on maintaining speed. Didn't know if this is normal. Thanx for any advice

Well most ppl dont have a V6. A good bit run the small v8 (4.7) and the other larger part run the bigger v8 (5.7) so we have more engine to get our speed up faster if you know what i mean. I think you have the advantage of a 5pd trans so you can wind the gears out longer to get up there but still I think the small v6 is holding you back.

A full tune up is needed (IMO) anytime you buy a used ride because you just dont know or can trust what the last person did.

BTW, I like your name. My wife used to be a pain too, especially when it came to my truck and my dogs. Now she is my ex wife.... ;-)

Weed I think most of us either had, have or will have one of those PITA!!

OP you will have to tune and tweak that V6 to get it to feel like much in that heavy ram! But stating with tune up should help some! And welcome to Dodge Forum!!

If that's the original tranny with no rebuilt, at that mileage it's outlasted most. I'd do a fluid change and go from there.

BTW, I love the screen name, mine was too. But they make a fix for that called DIVORCE, only problem I found is, it wasn't cheap! LMAO...

I thought std trans pretty much last forever being just gears, clutches and gear oil? I didnt think they had the wear out issues like hydrualic (auto) trans have?
