You may have read that I has the same/similar problem. It took two starts to get the gauge to register. I installed a new 'oil switch' awhile back after having similar symptoms on my 5.7L.
Location is just above the oil filter. Have not checked on a 4.7L. Slide out a little the connector colored key before pulling on the connector.
Chrysler-dealership, list 22.35 paid 15.00 +tax. for the 5.7L 2500.
P/N 5149097aa , its called 'Switch-oil'.

Condensation catches around the sw contact, rust happens.

I have had the EXACT same problem...turn it off and on and it goes away.
But there was just a thread about this and everyone said "check your sh*t!" I checked my oil and ends up I was a quart low...that might help you
