2003 ram 1500 hemi...bad lifter tick

Default 2003 ram 1500 hemi...bad lifter tick

alright so i have a pretty bad lifter tick going on.

143k miles.i use 20-50 oil during the summer.


I was told hemi's were bad for this? what can i do other then adding maybe some marvel oil

I have 69K miles on mine, lifter noise started @ 40K miles. Ran Mobil1 synth. Was told by dealership this is "normal"

20-50w that's too thick for these engine's. There is a reason they reccomend a certain oil. Not only for EPA, but also because bearing clearances that are tighter won't allow thicker oil to penetrate as fast. Same thing with getting that thick oil to the top of the engine.

I'd drop to 10w-30 for the summer and 5w-30 for the winter.

You probably have gunk build up from the thick oil. you could throw in some Lucas stabilizer and see if that helps, but can't make any promises. i know it's thick stuff as well, but it has much more lubricity than reg oil.

I ran sea foam through the air intake and in the oil, drained it and re-filled with Royal Purple oil and the tick went away for the next 3000 miles. Its back so I guess I wil try the sea foam again before the next oil change
