Anti Freeze Question: Why the Orange/red one??
Can anyone here tell me why I have to use the Dodge orange/red anti- freeze? It said on another post that the Dodge stuff is really renamed/recolored Zerx G-05 anti-freeze. Is this true?
Ok I'm not sure where it went, I have NO leaks on the ground, water pump, or any anti-freeze in the oil or anything. But I needed to bring the level back up to where it should be. So I got some Prestone that says it's compatible with ALL color anti-freeze I added about a quart.
Then I learn today that you can only use the Dodge brand anti-freeze because supposedly the inside seals, radiator and all are "Marine" grade and only the Dodge anti-freeze is authorized. It's also about 25-30 bucks a gallon at the dealer, WTH!!
Also do I need to flush the WHOLE system now because of the quart or so I added??

The mopar stuff is HOAT (hybrid organic additive technology), which is just rebranded/colored zerex. It's good for 100,000 miles. The green/universal stuff is good for 30,000 miles.
You don't need to flush or any of those other internet wives tales. However, by cheaping out you are seriously reducing the life of your antifreeze.
I wouldn't worry about just one quart of the cheap stuff. In the future just be sure to use the zerex.
Here is a GREAT read on it- http://www.search-autoparts.com/sear...27/article.pdf
