I don't think anyone here can make an accurate prediction of clutch strength.

Keep in mind though, that for the 2008 model year, the 6 speed and it's clutch were bolted to the 320+ HP / TQ upgraded 4.7L.

I think they are both big strong beasts.

Wow. That's pretty impressive.
Isn't the towing capacity on the 3.7L around 3800 or so?

Twink - what brand clutch and flywheel do you have?

I believe the tow ratings are low because :

1) The 6 speed rear axle ratios are pretty lousy
2) The output of the V6 is low
3) People can't drive, and there's a big liability associated with clutches and high tow ratings. Particularly on a truck without a true 'granny' gear.

If you are looking to spark up your ride, I would slap a set of 4.10's in the rear axle. For my Dakota, with a little less weight and smaller tires, I think 3.92 would be good, and 3.73 should have been standard from the factory. Oh well.

I actually read that the tow rating on the 3.7L was much better than the V8 and the Hemi.
On a side note I just scored a NOS 1 year only 67' 8 track player for my Beetle for SIXTY BUCKS!.... not sure who else to share my excitement with haha.

I think that if the 6 speed tranny can hold just over 300hp, and all of the trucks use the same auto trans, what if you slapped it on a hemi? Just a thought that crossed my mind a while back.

You either misread or read something that was incorrect. All there is to it.

A Hemi would bolt up to the 6 speed. There was a SEMA Jeep project that used our transmission with a stock 345 HP 5.7L.

300 HP would be conservative. I believe these transmissions are good to 400 HP.

But remember, HP is dependent on speed. I would *not* put this transmission behind a 400 HP Cummins.

It's much better to consider a transmission based on it's rated torque input.

Getrag does not list a model "238" on its website, but it does list a "6MTI520" with identical specs, such as ratio spread and synchronizer configuration. Rated input works out to 383 LB-FT.

http://www.getrag.de/en/239

The address is /239...not that far from our 238
