Angry Damn Gremlins...

All;
newbie here with a few problems seeking some info. Have a 2005 Ram SLT Quad 4x4 that was bought back home in Wyoming, just recently discharged from the military now working in CA. Only problem have to register the truck.. and so the fun began. First thing, what was changes I would have to make to the truck to meet smog standards. Everyone is telling me (including DMV, it should meet 49 state so there for pass Cali standards.. Okay. So moving on, as soon as I get it pluged into the machine, bam, starts poppin codes left & right.. So start trouble shooting. High Idle..Vacuum Leak? Couldn't find one, so next TPS, good. Pull vacuum line off EGR, nope same idle (1100 - 1423 no not kidding) in neutral & park. Okay. Take it in to get it once over..oh hey EGR valve is bad.. okay I might buy that, replaced it, reset computer and drive 10 miles under 65..fun. Nope still failing, and idle still high and still wont pass smog. WTH? About ready to drop check this thing.. so any suggestions.

Maybe you have a vaccum leak elswhere and that's why pulling the line off the EGR didn't make any difference. Vac leak would always cause a high idle on older cars,I'm not sure if that holds true on newer FI cars but it might.

I know in one other truck I had, not this one, I had a hellova time trying to figure out something like you're describing. Maybe an idle air control valve or the MAP sensor? I'm not sure on these trucks, but it helped me fix this problem on one of my older truck.
