Default BBK headers

I am looking to get headers been doing reading and i can;t get the LT's as I wont pass emissions test. So i have to go with the shortys. Just want to know if anyone has the BBK short tuned heads. How are they any noticable power increase. Just tell me how they are if you would have just put stock back on like dislikes. thanks

Well, don't expect a night and day difference. The dyno may show a difference and it will appear more on paper than you would actually feel...if that makes sense?
I installed JBA shorties and I couldn't tell much of a difference. It did improve a little, but nothing drastic by any means. I noticed more of a change in the exhaust tone than anything and that itself wasn't a major difference.
Only reason i purchased was because I got them dirt cheap. No way would I spend more than $300 on shorties so keep that in mind when looking.
For guys looking to mildly improve performance without the headaches of LT's, then shorties are the way to go, but i wouldn't sacrifice longevity for performance especially when your paying for it...Meaning; i wouldn't buy anything less than stainless. Mild steel with chrome coating will rust out in no time, same for painted mild steel surfaces....etc.. See with LT's, the gain is worth the hassle.....

If you don't have a tuner, i would start there first. i know you got an '04 that doesn't have much support, but the gains to be had would be equivilant to a set of shorties at a much easier install.

Do they do a visual inspection there? Just wondering bc if you can find a way to get around the testing and put some LT's on I think you will be very happy with the results.

I dont have a tuner would like to get one but no mony for that right now. I have a manifold leak and the hole passengers side need to be replaced do to rust. When i posted in a nother post some 1 said header time so iv been looking. monday im going to stop at some shops and see who will let me pass with the LT's. But maine has pretty strict laws on emissions. So what im getting out of ur post dirtydog is that its not worth getting the shorty's unless there cheap.

If you can get some chceap shorties it might be worth it but otherwise, new shorties will probably cost the same or more than a set of basic LT's.

I wouldn't advise you to go to inspection stations and ask if they will pass you. they will ALL say no if they don't know you because there are state inspection audits regularly. Atleast here in NY there is to stop inspection scams..AKA slap and go.
Most all inspection stations here require a few days waiting period. What that does is lessens the likelihood of getting audited on their inspections because the auditors travel on a regular basis and don't have time to wait around for a few days.

If you Need a replacement header, then there is no reason not to get some shorties if you can swing it, but if funding it too tight, just get a replacement header for the one side. prob run you like $75 shipped online. i think you'd have more fun playing around with a tuner than you would installing shorty headers. PLUS, you can always sell the tuner when you sell your truck where as most would just leave the headers on and there goes a couple hundred....????
