Default Diff Fluid / maintance

I have a 2008 Ram 1500 4x4. The dealer is telling me i need to change the diff fluid in front and rear diff's every 15k miles??? I never heard of fluid needing to be changed so often. Are you guys out there changing yours? PLease advise. I have 19,500 miles on it and its never been done. Also what weight is gear oil?

Every 15k if you're using conventional, you can get 30k out of synthetics.

I think that must be for severe service. Pyro I'm pretty sure the rear end requires synthetic according to dodge. Anyway most of the wear in the diff. occurs in the first 3-6k miles and after that there is very little wear, so you could definitely change it less often after the initial fill has been changed. Check your manual and see whether you're in severe service or not and it will tell you how often you need to change them to maintain your warranty.

If your not towing or plowing, I think 15 is excessive. Every 25-30k seems legit to me

The diff fluid is already synthetic. The book does say every 15K, but the severity of the use plays a part. On the other hand, it isn't all that expensive or difficult to do.
