Default Engine Fuel Filter Purchase/Where to Buy?

Looking for a fuel filter for a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 5.7 4x4. I was on www.autopartswarehouse.com and saw that K&N makes them. I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. So I didn't want to purchase the filter. I typed in my truck on their website and a number of fuel filters came up.
I also heard that if the fuel filter needs to be replaced the fuel pump module assembly must be replaced. That is shocking to me, if true. I thought it was as easy as putting in an oil filter, when replacing a fuel filter.

if I'm not mistaken, I think the fuel filter is an integral part of the fuel pump and regulator setup. It would be a good idea to check the FSM for your truck to be sure before you buy one. It might mean you would have to drop the tank. On the other hand, it probably wouldn't hurt to install an additional one in the line. Just make sure it is pressure rated for the fuel sytem.

The fuel filter is in the tank. Not generally considered a replaceable part, at least not by itself. You put an inline filter on it, but it probably isn't necessary.

Mopar. over $400. it's a non-serviceable item.

They prob gave you universal fuel filters on that site and not vehicle specific.

Weed, i got this odd thought in my head and I don't think 04 and 06 are compatible but that would have to be confirmed. i just thought for some reason they changed design in 05? Or maybe it was prior to the 04's? i'm all cornfused...lol
You'd prob know more than me on that anyways from your tank reasearch????

My 35 gal tank i swapped with my 26 came from a 06 2500. That tank still had the original pump in it so it will work.

weed you had to flash the computer after the change right? I'm looking into it now as my 5.9 gets a mere 200 or so miles per tank. lol

flashing of the PCM is not available from what i was told by several dealers. I have a thread on it. It will still read the correct DTE as the tank gets low but just will not read anything above the 26 gal approx that you can drive. The fuel gauge works fine though and believe me, when the gauge and OH says your empty...........your empty. LOL
