Which tires would you buy or reccomend?
Hey guys I am looking at 3 different tires and I was just wondering what your thoughts were on them. I am looking at bfg atko, dick cepek fc2's, and the pro comp xtreme all terrains. I am looking at 35x12.5x17 size and they will be mounted on 17x9 rims with 4.5 backspacing. I am just wondering who has experiences with what and how they are. All three should last a while and be quite but which one is going to be good in slick snow? I tend to spend half the year driving in It here in Chicago. Also wet traction is important. Also which one is going to do well in cornfield as there are plenty of those out here in the western suburbs. So far the bfgs are winning cuz I can get them for 250 and have a discount tire a couple of miles from my house. But I want to hear what you guys thing. Sorry about this being so long but I am bored at work and playing around with my new iPhone that I just bought.
the bfg at k/o are the crappiest tire i have ever used, there horribol in snow and rain all they do is slide, i have to literally feather the gas pedle to move and stop a mile back so i dont hit anyone so i dont reccomend them at all, i havnt used the other tires so im not sure but there probbly better then the bfa at k/o
id go either the cepeks, nitto terra graps, or cooper zeon ltz. those procomps are too expensive for what they're worth, and the bfg's arent worth their weight in rubber. may as well put drag slicks on in anything but dry pavement
I have personal experience with the 35x12.50x17 pro comp extreme A/T's. If you want a tire that falls apart, buy this tire. With about 5k miles on the tires, I had a tread lug seperate from the carcass of the tire. I paid to have it patched, then took it to 4 wheel parts ( a pro comp tires dealer, that SUPPOSEDLY honors warranties). They told me they would not warranty the tire, because I took it somewhere else to have it patched. I chalked that one up as a loss, and walked out.
Some months later, the tread was wearing down (fairly evenly, mind you). I had about 20k miles on the tires at this time, and I was expecting another 5-7k tops out of them before they wore out. So, I once again, went to 4 wheel parts to see about pro rating the tires (they have a 40k mile treadlife warranty, in theory). They told me that yes, the tires did loko like they were wearing too fast, but they would not pro rate me for new tires, since I was honest and told them that I drive up and down winding mountain roads daily on my commute. To them this was not "normal driving conditions". I still have the tires on the truck to this day, only because I cannot afford to buy new ones yet. I think I can squeeze a total of about 2k more miles out of them. This puts them at about 27k miles total when I get rid of them. Good riddance, and I will never buy another pro comp tire again, nor will I purchase from 4 wheel parts.
Just my experience, yours may vary.

Yeah I would love to get the fc2's but there is nowhere around here that has them. I would prefer not to order them online due to experiences like what diesel had happen to him. My local discount tire can get ntg's though and that might sway me over to them. I like the 325's and they are only 275 a tire. I have worked retail and I would never want to make a major purchase online cuz it sucks to try to talk to someone. Plus discount tire rotates your tires for free just a bonus on days like today when it is below zero. How do those ntg's do on snow and rain and how many miles are they good for on average? Do they do any good in mud?
You should check out the new nitto trail graps. Their price is kinda steep since they are brand new but they are a mix of terra grapplers and mud grapplers. I have only one buddy who has them in 37s. We have no snow here but they are exactly like mud graps in the mud and terra grapplers in the rain. Just my .02
Nitto all the way, Toyo tire is a parent company of Nitto, If you want a cheap tire that has traction and longevity for the price, Firestone wilderness AT, Bridgestone's tend to wear out quicker, any tread that is packed tightly, like BFG RT T/A or the TKO suck off road or in the mud or in the snow, a tight tread coumpoud just packs up.
