Default Oil Change Light

Hey guys. so here's my problem. I got my oil changed a little over a month ago. The light on the dash hadn't come on yet, but i was taking a long trip, so i decided it would be a good idea to change it. Normally i do my own oil changes, but now i'm in College away from home and i have no place to do it. So i took it into a Midas shop. They did my oil change no problem, and now, i'm only 1,000 miles into that Midas oil change and my "Change Oil" light is coming on. Do i really need an oil change after 1,000 miles? Or is the light coming on for some other reason?

I think Midas didn't reset your oil change on the onboard computer. Just turn the key on without starting and press the gas peddle 10 times to reset the computer. That was how I remove the oil change indicator. I also have a 08 Hemi.

It's likely the internal "timer" that when you reach a certain amount of miles it will come on. Unless your oil gets really dirty before then, the ight will come on early.
Turn the key to the acc position not starting. Allow the light to stop flashing and you only need to press the gas pedal 3 times. Not 10. Once you fully press the gas pedal 3 times going all the way to the floor...start the truck up and verify the light is gone.

I did think with my dipstick haha turns out the oil is slightly below the hatched safe area, I'll go buy a quart and top it off, the oil looks wonderful though, not dirty at all, I figured it was the mileage, going all these miles (7,000 since I got it, changed the oil right when I got it) without a reset is throwing up a red flag in the computer.

Sounds like your 1qt low. Def shouldn't be that low if you just got the oil changed. Sounds like Midas idiots only put in 6qts instead of 7qts. How many qts did they charge you for? They should have checked the level so really, there is no reason for not putting in enough oil. I'd go back just to get it on record incase anything happens(doubtful, but you never know)

I of course didn't check the level after they did it, because I figured they did it right, I made sure to tell them 7 qts of 5W-20, because I wanted to make sure it was done right. I was charged for 7 qts, next time I get a change I'm gonna buy the oil/filter myself and take it to some non-chain shop and just have them do the change. I've done it myself for 4 years now on 2 different vehicles and I am starting to not trust anyone else....

Sounds like Midas=Jiffy Lube. I've never had much respect for Midas. "Lifetime Muffler Warranty" just meant you paid for all of 'em up front. $300+ for a basic muffler replacement? Not for me, thanks.

They probably said, "This guy hasn't a clue, no V-8 needs seven quarts. We'll put in the usual six."
