Upon starting, truck stalled...now won't start
Hello all,
I searched the forum and the stalling issues I found seem to be different than what I am experiencing. My truck has never stalled while driving.
I have a 2006 quad cab 5.7 4x4. My truck is kept in the garage and the temperature gauge read 38 degrees Fahrenheit.
I went to leave for work earlier this AM, this is what happened...
1. Started the truck no problem, it stalled.
2. Started the truck no problem, it stalled.
3. Tried to start the truck, but it just kept cranking.
4. Started the truck no problem, it stalled.
5. Started the truck no problem and held the throttle down, it stalled.
6. Started the truck no problem and held the throttle down, it stalled.
7. Started the truck no problem, it stalled.
8. Came inside to investigate issues.
9. Went out to try the off, on, off, on, off, on sequence for a code, but didn't receive anything.
10. Tried the sequence again, and didn't receive information.
11. Tried to start the truck, no crank.
12. Tried to start the truck, no crank.
13. Noticed a sound coming from the rear of the truck near the gas tank when trying to start the truck.
14. Came back on dodgeforum to discuss my issue.
The instrument cluster shows...
1. Check Gages light is illuminated.
2. ETC light is illuminated.
3. Security light comes on a few seconds late and stays illuminated.
Can the ETC be bad? I thought this would be on while driving. I have never had any lights illuminate while driving (with the exception of washer fluid and low fuel). Speaking of fuel, I currently have 1/4 tank left from my fill-up about 1 week ago.
Thanks for any assistance!
Best,
Jeremy

Thanks for the useful feedback.
The battery is fully charged.
Looks like you know alot about the way vehicles work, considering a dead battery wouldn't cause the truck to stall.
Keep playing tough guy on the internet...it is very appealing.

I tried the second key and it started right up and kept running.
I then got the original key I was using and it started right up as kept running as well.
Does that chip get reprogrammed?
Or do I still have an underlying issue since both keys now work?
Edit...yes, a whining, very similar to the sound when you engage 4wd. I figured it was the fuel pump, but never had heard it before.

i doubt the 2nd key re-programmed your 1st key, but with electronics and frequencies i suppose anything is possible
The keys work off of RF frequencies. is the first key you tried on a key chain with other chipped keys? maybe it was scrambling the frequency up and causing your issue's??? it can happen but the chances are kinda slim.
Regarding the battery issue. You were able to keep cranking and cranking your truck over which takes ALOT of juice. i doubt your battery is bad, BUT a bad battery could cause certain electrical issue's especially if your alternator isn't properly charging, so essentially that would mean a bad alt. not a bad battery. the battery would be a side effect of a bad alt.

Nim81, if your battery goes dead often, then you should look into getting another one. Sounds like a bad cell or 2 not holding a charge, which in turn makes your alternator work much harder and shortens it's lifespan. A healthy battery is the best thing for your alternator as they do work hand in hand.

Thanks DirtyDog. I will keep an eye on it.
I knew if wasn't the battery because all my electronics were working perfectly and I had no real issues cranking.
I believed nim81 was being sarcastic meaning the truck won't start when the battery is dead. I don't believe that was a serious answer on his/her part. Though, I could be wrong.
Thanks so much for the support! I was ready to go out and start buying parts to troubleshoot.
