Default engine slow to warm up

Hello, V6 engine is slow to warm up...
anyone have any information about the Dodge service # 1800404 or the NHTSA # 10005983 as it talks about the engine being slow to warm up.

thanks for the help.

Chuck

I think that TSB is only for cummings engines but here is a link to it http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2004/18-004-04.htm. Your thermostat might just be stuck open causing it to take forever to warm up.

thermostat is probably shot. nothing more that that if you're lucky.

t-stats are engineered to "break" while in open position. sounds weird, but it's true. this way, when the thermostat doesn't work, you aren't left with cracking heads, melting plastic underhood from coolant overflow, etc, etc - all you're left with is a motor that will never seem to warm up because the minute you start it, coolant is running wide open.

good luck. check your thermostat. it's a few simple connections to get to it and an $8 part. do it, it may be worth a shot before freaking out and taking more drastic and expensive measures.

edit: ****...didn't know chambers said the same thing...lol

I am sorry... I did replace the thermostat and antifreeze,
it helped alittle but it still takes 10 miles before any heat comes out the heater or the temp gauge moves.
plus I made a metal plate to cover the front of the rad.
I got this truck NEW... and it has always been slow to warm up but this year has got worse.

well, my truck hasn't seen the middle line since i purchased it. in winter i get all the way home with COLD air still. not like, "cool" air...but fridged air. right now it got to just above 1/4 on the way home. it's mostly highway...but it's only like a 10 mile commute.

i don't know your problem though i guess =)

That's weird.... My truck usually takes about 5 blocks to get the heater going. After that, in about a mile it is completely warm in any weather. Granted, the temp gauge doesn't ever go past about 3/8. The only thing about mine is that if I park it and idle in 20 degrees or cooler, the temp gauge goes down. Not to mention that my heater is FREAKING EPIC!
