Default question about making the stock 17's black with out painting the chrome

so i have the stock 17 inch rims that come on the majority of dodge trucks before around 2007. when i looked at them it appears the chrome is like an over lay on the the rim. I was wondering if you could pop that off and paint the actual wheel wich is already black

i heard you could, but it would be a b*tch to pop off. i just painted the chrome on my stockers. just sand them sown a bit so the paint has something to stick to. and use a good primer. regular primer will chip off easily

When you pop that chrome piece off, the rim is supposedly a different shape under that cover than the cover itself.
