My gas needle at times when I start it drops 1/2 to 1/4 tank from what of was the other day and stays there for a while, then slowly creeps up to what it actually was at or jumps. Can some one tell me why it's doing this?

 

Sounds like an electrical issue. i'd start by checking your ground strap from the body to the frame. make sure it is solid and intact first before you go any further.
