so get retreads, you asked if we would. sounds like you had your mind made up before you even posted this thread.
My step dad was a cheap sob and always bought retreads for his cars, we were on our way to Canada for a vacation one summer and had a tread separation followed by a blow out. He was able to steer the car off the shoulder and come to a safe stop on the grass. My mom never allowed him to put retreads on the "family" car after that, just on his vehicle which was used only by him to commute to and from work...

I still couldn't see myself taking that risk. Even if they went and didn't exactly blow causing you to flip, think about if that cap came off at 50-60 mph and either damaged the hell outta your truck (and it would) or fly back and hit another car or even cause someone else to have an accident because of it. Too much to risk IMO. Even if you save lets say $600 to put a retread on, how much would you pay to have a body shop fix the damage of the cap flying off or even blowing (worst case scenario) and totaling your truck from flipping???
believe me i wish i had the money to buy good tires. and totally wouldnt buy them if it were a family car. but being in college and the youngest of 3 there just isnt enough money for me. i like to ask you guys because u are much older and have more experience than me. so thanks
heres my opinion....and ive been told im arrogant a few times on here lol....but.....you are a complete idiot if you use retreads on a daily driven vehicle that is single wheel. almost every person who has posted here has agreed. retreads just have too much risk to use on your personal, everyday vehicles. im in college too, and ya $600 can be a lot....but is it really worth it....from what ive found out with tires....even if theyre waranteed for XX amount of miles, its rare to have the company fully warantee them because they need proper documents...blah blah blah run around. and the other tires will give you a good but more mileage....so with that factored in....you might save yourself....what.....$300? and IMO i only risk high if the payout is high....
no hurt in asking, its just clear that the vote/logical/smart thing to do would spend a little bit more money and do the right thing. you have a nice truck, why **** it up with some sh!tty tires? and why risk your ride, yourself and your friends/family because you cheaped out over a few hundred bucs?
My dad has been an owner/operator for as long as I can remember. He never even considered retreads for his rig, even when money was tight and he had to replace tires. That spoke volumes to me and I never considered doing it on any of my personal vehicles. I have no hard evidence that they are dangerous, but I dont want to have a failure on my vehicle with my family in tow to find out.
