Default Idle Question 2002 Dodge Ram 4.7L

Hello:

I am new to the forum and I wanted to know if anyone has the following problem or is it just normal idle.

The idle of the Vehicle when warm ranges from 700-500 rpms. I dont understand why the fluctuation in range? On occasions it drops down to 500 and you notice for a brief moment and that it seems like it were to drop enough that it will shut but it very quickly comes up. Again it seldomly does this but I waould like a steady idle. The vehicle is Stock except that it has a Cold Air Intake and Magnaflow exhaust. I have been running various types of FI cleaners with NO success. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?
I recently purchased a SuperChips for it and I checked the codes and all is fine. I mentioned this to my mechanic and he said that it's not an idle adjust and that the idle is regulated by the computer mapping in it.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm not a 100% sure but I think you can mess with your idle with the superchips if it annoys you that much, you might also check plugs, coils, etc. for the heck of it. You might have a bad plug makin the computer wig out.

First off Welcome to DF. You can use the search method for any information you need to find or for regularly posted questions, which is mostly everything.....lol

A few things that can cause erratic idle....spark plugs(due every 30kmi) PCV valve, dirty air filter, dirty IAT sensor(intake temp), carboned up IAC valve(idle air control), TPS sensor(throttle position) and the occassional but rare occurance of a dirty injector.

Becareful of which fuel injector cleaner you use. They are more harmful than good depending on the brand and how much you use them. Too regularly and you will cause down the road problems like dired up seals...etc.
