Default Unusual problems, need help

Recently my emissions light has been coming on in my truck, it will be on for a few days, then turn off for a week or so, then come back on, but sometimes it will come on for about 30 minutes while driving then shut off. I have taken it to get the code read, but it is a general code and does not narrow down anything for me. My truck has also been making a weird noise somewhere under the hood, it sounds like a fan, and only gets louder as my speed gets higher (not RPM dependent). Also every now and then, when I'm driving really slow like in a parking lot, my truck will just die. The RPM's just drop off when I let off the gas and it kills itself. No weird lights come on after this, its like I turn it off myself while I'm still rolling. So there are some weird things going on, and Dodge screwed me over with the extended warranty, so nothing of this nature is covered. Any suggestions on stuff I can look at myself? I'm pretty mechanically savy, I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Hoping that this is just a simple thing that I'm overlooking....if you need me to go into more detail about a problem, let me know

It's an 05, and I bought it brand new, the dealership gave me a 8 year 88k mile powertrain warranty, but that doesnt cover anything electrical, I took it to them and they told me they had no idea what it could be, and if it was something not covered under warranty I would have to pay for all the testing and everything, so I want to do the testing myself and figure it out, I'll look into the cat convert. though

Funny you should ask, I literally just got back from having it read, and instead of them telling me what it was, they accidentally cleared it, so I gotta wait for the light to come back on then go back for them to read it again...
